Kakuzi announces plans to double avocado exports to China
Kakuzi Plc, Kenya’s largest exporter of avocados, has confirmed its intention to double its shipments to China following a visit by a delegation from Dalian Yidu Group, a major Chinese importer of fresh fruits and vegetables.
The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) listed company hosted the visitors at its Makuyu orchards and packhouse in Murang’a County over the weekend. The guests were impressed by Kakuzi’s production and quality management processes, which meet the stringent Chinese market demands.
Kakuzi Plc Managing Director Chris Flowers said that the company has invested KES 120 million to expand its avocado orchards by 60 hectares, up from 927 hectares, to meet the growing demand for quality superfoods globally. He said that Kakuzi is strategically positioned to provide quality superfoods for both local and export markets.

The visit by the team from Dalian Yidu underscores the importance of quality management systems as such buyers undertake rigorous evaluations to enable them to deliver nothing but the best to their discerning customers,” Flowers said.
Dalian Yidu Group Business Executive Laura Xu said that Dalian Yidu is proud to be associated with Kakuzi, which produces quality Hass avocados that are in high demand in China. She said that Dalian Yidu has been importing fresh fruits and vegetables since 1988 and has developed a strong supply chain network.
“Dalian Yidu is proud to be associated with a quality-conscious Kenyan grower such as Kakuzi, producing quality Hass Avocados which are in very high demand in China,” Ms Xu said. She added, “Dalian Yidu has been in the Chinese fresh fruit and vegetables import business since 1988 and has developed formidable international sourcing, cold-chain and related logistical management structure for its fruit and vegetable business.”
Kakuzi Plc is a subsidiary of Camellia Plc, a British company with interests in agriculture, engineering, food service and investments. Kakuzi also produces blueberries, macadamia, tea, livestock and commercial forestry.
