Interior CS directs formation of Kayafungo Division, Kilifi county
Interior Cabinet secretary Kithure Kindiki has directed administration officers in Kaloleni to kick off the process of forming Kayafungo Division. He issued the directives in Kaloleni county shortly after commissioning the office of the assistant county commissioner in Mwanamwinga.
“I am directing the county commissioner to conduct public participation within 30 days to facilitate the creation of Kayafungo division and have the report brought to my office,” Kindiki directed.
According the the CS the move will help bring services closer to the people by ensuring easy access to crucial government services.
Kaloleni Member of Parliament Paul Katana lauded the move urging the government to intervene and help in alleviating the pangs of hunger in the region. Katana narrated the suffering people are gong through owing to the failed rains that has left land bare and dry.
“Please come to my office on Monday together with other leaders in the region so that we can plan on how we can immediately start distributing relief food,” the CS added.
He also said that the government will sink 10 boreholes in Kaloleni in the next three months.
“Look at these people, you would think that they are unhappy with you but I can assure you that it is because they are hungry. They want food, their livestock have been affected and we are pleading with the Kenya Kwanza adjust ration to help our people,” said Katana.
Katana also urged police to allow locals continue operating local brew dens “Mnazi” insisting that it is one of the income generating activity in the region.
More officers will also be deployed in the region to beef up security with CS Kindiki also noting that transfer of the long serving police officers in the region will commence in due time.
He also ordered for the upgrade of Gotani police station in order to provide a conducive working environment for the law enforcement officers.
“I also want all the security agencies to work hand in hand and probe “disco matanga” and establish if contributes to early marriages and if it is so the we will ban. We cannot allow our children to drop out of schools because what have have seen is that only 69 percent of the students have joined form one the the rest are at home, why?” the soft-spoken CS asked.
