House clerks gazette Thursday as EALA membership election day
Bicameral parliament clerks have gazetted Thursday, November 17 as Election day for Members of the East African Legislative Assembly.
The clerks, who will be presiding officers during the proceedings said the elections shall be held at 10.00 a.m. in the National Assembly Chamber and at 9.30 a.m. in the Senate Chamber, respectively, in the Main Parliament Buildings, Nairobi.
“IT is notified for the general information of the public that Rule 15 (1) of the East African Legislative Assembly Elections (Election of Members of the Assembly) Rules, 2017, provides that the presiding officers, who are the Clerks of the National Assembly and the Senate, shall, by notice published in the Kenya Gazette and in at least two newspapers of national circulation, appoint a date and venue for the holding of the election by the respective Houses of Parliament, which shall be not more than fourteen (14) days after the nomination day,” the published gazette sated November 16 read.
This comes as major political coalitions made final deliberations on the representatives in the Arusha-based assembly.
President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza camp has settled on five former MPs for the EALA job.
The finalists are former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, former nominated MP David Ole Sankok, former Nandi Women Representative -Zipporah Kering, former URP Secretary General Fred Muteti and former nominated senator Falhada Dekow Iman.
The five were elected by Kenya Kwanza parliamentarians on Wednesday through a secret ballot.
