Guliye: How state sought to have Raila announced winner
IEBC commissioner Abdi Guliye claims the National Security Advisory Committee warned the commission that if it announced William Ruto as president-elect, the “country is going to burn“.
His sentiments are also shared by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati in his affidavit responding to the presidential petition by Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua.
This is according to an affidavit Guliye has filed at the Supreme Court where he says this was the pronouncement of the NSAC team leader at a meeting with IEBC, Kennedy Kihara, who is also the Principal Administrative Secretary at the office of the president.
The explosive affidavit indicates that the other members of NSAC at the meeting were Kennedy Ogeto (Solicitor General), Hillary Mutyambai (Inspector General of Police), and Lieutenant General Francis Omondi (Vice Chief of Defense Forces).
Guliye also claims to be part of a meeting between the Comission and Raphael Tuju, Amos Wako alongside advocate Kyalo Mburu.
The affidavit indicates that Wako requested IEBC to consider the link between the election results to be declared and the stability of the country which he described as “the Bigger Picture” and that Raphael Tuju added that it was necessary for the results to be ‘’moderated in favour of baba’’.
Tuju is quoted by both Guliye and Chebukati promising adequate compensation to the Commissioners if they announced Raila as the president-elect.
The two also say that four commissioners who dismissed the results were in agreement with the statements made by the two groups of visitors.
