General Kibochi visits Jordan to strengthen defence partnership
The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Robert Kibochi is on an official visit to the Kingdom of Jordan in a bid to enhance defence partnership and bilateral cooperation.
The visit, one of many between the two countries over the last decade, comes as Kenya and Jordan work to build bilateral relations between the Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF) and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
Kibochi was received by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Major General Yousef Hnaity.
In his opening remarks, General Kibochi affirmed, “This visit is a confirmation of the strong existing friendly bilateral relations between the Jordanian Armed Forces and the Kenya Defence Forces, which has been made possible through the participation of various joint training and exercises between the two countries in the past.”
According to the Kenya Defence Forces, the bilateral engagement will reinforce cooperation in various areas such as military training and exercises, defence industry, defence research and development, medical and health services research, maritime security, exploitation of the blue economy, cyber security, counter-terrorism, climate security, and exchange of visits.
General Kibochi highlighted that a non-resident Defence Attaché (DA) station has been established in Amman, Jordan, to improve coordination and liaison between the two militaries.
Kibochi’s visit follows former Defence Minister Raychelle Omamo’s visit to Jordan in 2017.
The meeting between Omamo and King Abdullah tackled regional and international efforts in the war on terror as part of a holistic strategy and was attended by Chief of Kenyan Defence Forces Gen. Samson Mwathethe and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Friehat.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta hosted His Majesty King Abdullah in Nairobi in 2016 to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and the latest regional and international developments, with a focus on efforts to combat terrorism.
According to a Royal Court statement, discussions focused on the Kingdom’s intention to open an embassy in Nairobi, which would take Jordan-Kenya relations to the next level.
