Gachagua to Azimio: Give us time to clean up your mess, then oversight us
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua told the opposition that thirty days is insufficient time to turn the economy around and that more time was needed to salvage the mess before the opposition could play itsoversight function.
Speaking at a thanksgiving service in Kericho, Gachagua said Uhuru’s administration had left the country in an economic disaster.
“We can not clean up the economic mismanagement of five years in thirty days. What we are doing right now is cleaning up their mess,” Gachagua said.
Gachagua previously accused opposition leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga of abdicating his oversight duty during the Jubilee regime, allowing public resources to be plundered.
Odinga and other Azimio leaders have recently criticized President Ruto’s policies since his inauguration, accusing him of failing to deliver on some of his key campaign promises.
Odinga indicated during his public meeting in Mathare that the cost of living was becoming too high for ordinary Kenyans and that corrective measures were required to reduce the load. He accused Ruto of making false promises regarding the cost of living during his campaigns.
Raila accused Ruto of failing to cut the price of flour, cooking oil, and fuel, as well as failing to put his ‘Hustler Fund’ plan into action. He also slammed Ruto’s decision to ease the ban on GMOs, arguing that they were illegal in other countries as well.
Raila also stated that the Russian government donated free fertilizer to Ruto, which he was selling for Ksh 3,500 and terming it as a subsidy program.
President Ruto, on the other hand, has defended himself, claiming that Raila Odinga and former President Uhuru Kenyatta are to blame for wrecking the economy.
