From boardroom to stage: Thomas Puthoor’s dual life as managing director and gospel musician
In a world where corporate attire often masks individuality, Thomas Puthoor, managing director of Simba Apparel, stands out by embracing his multifaceted identity. Leading over 4,000 employees in the Export Processing Zone, Puthoor is not just a businessman; he is also a passionate musician dedicated to his ministry.
When the workday ends, Puthoor swaps his formal suits for vibrant clothing, picks up his guitar, and steps onto the stage, where he performs with the same confidence and fervor he brings to the boardroom. His talent was on full display during a recent performance aboard the Logos Hope, the world’s largest floating library, which docked in Mombasa.
“I fell in love with Kenya as soon as I arrived 33 years ago. Now, it feels like home,” Puthoor shared, expressing his deep connection to the country and its people.
During the concert, Puthoor captivated the audience with his rendition of “Cha Kutumaini Sina,” a popular track from his Swahili album. Wearing a shimmering blue jacket that caught the stage lights, he delivered a performance that blended Bollywood-like melodies with heartfelt emotion. The full band accompanying him, which included drums, keyboards, percussion, and lyres, added to the vibrant atmosphere.
The crowd, gathered on the Logos Hope, watched in amazement as Puthoor’s smooth and flawless Swahili created a memorable experience. The performance showcased a side of Puthoor that many had never seen before, leaving the audience in awe.
Concert organizers had invited him to perform, knowing about his music ministry and his history of performing on similar Christian vessels in the past. Puthoor has dedicated himself to ministering through music, connecting with audiences from church to church across the nation.
As he continues to balance his corporate responsibilities with his musical passion, Thomas Puthoor remains a testament to the idea that one’s identity can encompass both professional success and artistic expression.
