Fire destroys two dormitories at Masii Boys High School in Machakos
Property worth an undisclosed amount has been gutted in a fire that engulfed two dormitories at Masii Boys High School in Mwala, Machakos County, burning boxes, beds, mattresses and other items to ashes on Tuesday evening.
The Machakos Fire Service team responded to the fire which broke out around 6 pm. No students were reported injured.
Francis Nzyoki, who led the Machakos firefighters, said the school’s Nyati and Ndovu dormitories were gutted by the fire.
He added that a storeroom containing over 3000 mattresses and metal boxes belonging to the students was also burnt down.
He said the origin of the fire was yet to be established.
“As soon as we are done putting out the fire, I will conduct my investigations as the fire officer to ascertain the real cause of the fire, because I have not met the school teachers yet, only the workers who directed us to the dormitories,” he said.
The school Principal Joseph Nzoka did not comment on the fire, saying investigations were ongoing and he was waiting for the conclusion before making a statement.
Police officers from Masii led by OCS Felix Nkonge also arrived and secured the scene of the fire.
