Elite police raid former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi’s home
In a shocking development, a group of elite police officers have surrounded the home of former Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i.
The reason behind the sudden raid remains unclear.
Azimio coalition leader, Raila Odinga has also made his way to Matiangi’s home, his spokesperson Dennis Onyango has confirmed.
On arrival, the former prime minister expressed disbelief upon hearing of the raid and that it was taking place late at night.
“I was shocked to hear that this was happening at this time of the night. The times of late-night arrests and detentions without any formal charges appear to be coming back,” Raila Odinga said.
“If Matiang’i has committed a crime that warrants his arrest, that should be made public and known to him. This idea of arresting senior citizens at this hour of the night is unacceptable,” he added.
His lawyer, Danstan Omari, claimed that the state was attempting to falsely accuse and frame the former CS.
“My client is holed up as if he is a fugitive in his country. Civility must be retained, we can’t have a rogue government that comes at night to arrest the former CS. If they want the former CS, we will provide him. What they want to do is plant guns in there and frame him with trumped up charges,” Matiang’is lawyer Danstan Omari said.
