EACC arrests 3 suspects on suspicion of bribery during KFS recruitment
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has made a breakthrough in its fight against corruption, by arresting three suspects and recovering KES. 240,000 intended for bribing recruiting officers in the ongoing Kenya Forest Service recruitment drive at Bungoma Airstrip in Bungoma County.
The EACC Bungoma Regional Office Manager, Christine Natome, revealed that the alleged bribery was aimed at securing the recruitment of one Constant Mulongo Barasa, who happens to be the brother-in-law of the main suspect.
The EACC officers were on routine monitoring of the ongoing Kenya Forest Service (KFS) recruitment drive at Bungoma Airstrip within Bungoma County when they received intelligence information that a ranger at Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) named Philip Wesa was intending to bribe the recruiting officers to recruit his brother-in-lawa. The EACC officers identified the suspects and monitored their movements closely. However, Barasa was eventually eliminated from the recruitment process because he did not meet the height requirement of 5.6 feet.
Despite this setback, the undercover investigation revealed that Philip Wesa and another person named Emmanuel Lusaka took Barasa back to the recruitment area where they attempted to bribe the recruitment officers. It was at this point that EACC officers arrested the three suspects and recovered KES. 240,000 in cash, which was intended for bribing the recruiting officers.
The EACC has been vocal in its efforts to combat corruption in the country, and this latest arrest is a clear indication of its commitment to fighting corruption at all levels. The commission has urged members of the public to report any cases of corruption they may come across, and assured Kenyans that it will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the country is free of corruption.
