EABL brand manager who went missing found alive
Lilian Nyambura Mbugua, the brand manager of East Africa breweries Limited (EABL) who went missing on December 23, 2024, has been found alive but confused.
The news was confirmed by Murang’a South Deputy County Commissioner Gitonga Murungi.
Ms Mbugua had travelled to her home in Maragua Constituency on December 21 to be with her family for Christmas before she vanished.
Family spokesman George Njuguna, who is also her uncle, told Nation.Africa that she was found abandoned in Maragua Town, about 50 kilometres from her home.
Her missing person report was first made at Gikono police patrol base on December 23 before another was made at the Murang’a South DCI office on December 28.
“She walked out of her mother’s compound leaving behind her car, two laptops, two phones and other personal effects. She was dressed casually wearing only a red dress, sky blue sweater, black and white headscarf and slippers,” Mr Njuguna said.
Mr Njuguna said family members thought she was taking an evening stroll when she sauntered out of the gate at around 5pm. Anxiety turned into despair when she had not returned two days later.
Celebrating the finding of Ms Nyambura, the uncle said the whole family delights in God’s mercies.
“We were notified at about half past midnight today (Tuesday) morning that a woman fitting her description was sighted in Maragua Town,” he said.
Family members then mobilised a group to respond to the tip-off.
“Upon arriving at the scene, we found her standing near a petrol station looking confused, tired and weak. She appeared to be in distress,” Mr Njuguna said.
“We took her to Maragua Police Station to report and later took her to Maragua Level Four Hospital for examination and first aid.”
The family then took her back to her mother’s home where she remains for now.
Mr Njuguna said the family is awaiting the results of her medical exam before deciding what the next steps will be.
Murang’a South Deputy County Commissioner Mr Murungi told Nation.Africa that investigations into the incident have started.
“She is not in a position to speak…we are patiently waiting for her to recover her senses. Of importance is that she was found alive,” Mr Murungi said.
Authorities are trying to figure out how she found herself so far from home.
“She had no electronic gadget to indicate how she travelled. We certainly don’t know how she found herself in Maragua Town. We also don’t know where she has been for those eight nights she has been missing,” Mr Murungi said.
He noted that only when she starts talking and shares information will investigators manage to draw a report on the incident.
“For now, the security position is that we are happy that a missing person report has been found. Being found alive is cause for celebration for all interested parties, including us,” Mr Murungi said.
Maragua Assistant Deputy County Commissioner Joshua Okello said local investigators are already on the ground trying to get independent information regarding the incident.
“We are exploring all available hidden cameras at the scene where she was found. We want to establish whether she was dropped or if she walked there. We are also making several inquiries,” he said.
He added: “Give us time. We will soon know exactly what happened to her. But since she has been found alive, the right to tell or not to tell where she was remains exclusively with her.”
