Duale: Muhoozi’s tweets should not bother us, we leave him to KOT
Defence Cabinet Secretary nominee has said Ugandan general Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s remarks about seizing Nairobi should be treated with disdain.
Duale said the government was not supposed to respond to tweets but rather to official diplomatic documents.
Duale, who was testifying before the Appointments Committee, was replying to a question from minority leader Opiyo Wandayi, who asked why the country had not taken Muhoozi’s comments seriously.
Wandayi claimed Kenya had reduced the matter to a purely diplomatic one, despite the fact that it was a significant defense concern.
“Let’s treat the tweets of the General with the contempt it deserves, we should not bother. I think Kenyans on Twitter dealt with the general before the KDF and Foreign Affairs was to come in,” Duale said.
Duale, on the other hand, said he was prepared to safeguard and defend Kenyans in accordance with the constitution.
Muhoozi had promised to capture Kenya’s capital, but a diplomatic storm between the two countries forced him to apologize to President Ruto.
“I have never had any problem with Afande Ruto. If I made a mistake anywhere, I ask him to forgive me as his young brother. God bless East Africa,” Muhoozi tweeted.
Regarding dealing with Al Shabaab and having Somali roots, Duale stated that his background will not hinder his capacity to deal with Al-Shabaab.
“There is a perception about Somalis in Kenya. There are Somali ministers in Canada and The US. I am not the only Somali to hold a serious security docket. I am Kenyan. Profiling Somalis should end with this administration. I will serve Kenyans in accordance with the Constitution of Kenya,” Duale said.
Duale further said it was wrong to bring defence generals to run civilian entities like NMS and Kenya Meat Commission.
