Drama as two investors fight over prime beach property in Malindi county
There was drama at a beach property in Malindi town, Kilifi County when two investors fought over a prime beach property.
The ugly scene started when one party of the investors with goons tried to access their beach property through a rival investor’s property which they claim is a public beach access road.
Led by Shelali Abdala, the investors accused the management of Lepleiadi Investment Limited of blocking a beach access road by erecting a perimeter road hence barring another investor from accessing his property.
“This is a public road and there is nothing to contest about and you can see clearly that Lepleiadi has erected a fence indicating the end of their property. The road is 6 metres wide and it is supposed to be 9 meters wide according to the plan. We can all sit down and talk and avoid all this drama,” he said.
However, Henry Chavanji who is the manager of Lepleiadi Investment Limited alleged that the alleged road is his property and that Shelali had forcefully encroached on his property in order to access his property that sits on a riparian area.
Chavanji was roughed up by goons who had arrived with Shelali and had his car broken into and money and jewellery stolen.
“The riparian land grabbers who are forcing access through private properties are now using goons and thugs to threaten investors. They even threaten tourists and guests in our residence. I was assaulted and they broke into my car and stole money and jewellery. I have reported the matter to the police for action to be taken,” he said.
He now wants the government agencies to act on the matter and save genuine investors from constant harassment.
“We want the government agencies, especially the tourism and land ministries, to look into the matter since it is negatively affecting tourism,” he added.
Ismail Ahmed, an activist in Malindi town wondered why the alleged beach road had been blocked at a time the investor was planning to put up a KES 2 billion investment that will create jobs for the local community.
“There is a project coming up here and we will benefit but the access road has been blocked and this threatens investments that would have provided jobs for us. I urge the government to intervene and open the road,” he said.
