DP Rigathi in Rome to address the UN summit on Financing Food Systems
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is set to address a high-level United Nations summit on financing food systems on Monday, July 24.
He will be representing President William Ruto at this significant summit, which includes participation from Heads of State and key organizations.
In a tweet, DP Gachagua said that the high-level Summit provides Kenya with a timely opportunity to showcase what the government is doing to enhance its food systems amid the vagaries of Climate Change and other emerging challenges.
“With the intervening programs such as the fertilizer subsidy initiative and the comprehensive reforms we are rolling out in key agricultural sub-sectors; we are on track to achieve our target of ensuring the country’s food security,” part of the tweet read.
Most of the bilateral relations meetings have been attended by President William Ruto in the recent past.
The meeting will also see participation from Italy’s Prime Minister Georgia Meloni and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
DP Gachagua added that one of the key topics of discussion at the summit will be the school meals program, where States collaborate with partners to ensure that pupils in public primary schools receive balanced and nutritious food, promoting both health and education.
Numerous Heads of State and Government, along with representatives from UN agencies like the World Food Programme and the Food Agriculture Organization, will be present at the plenary.
The delegation that will represent Kenya includes Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Mithika Linturi; Cabinet Secretary for Education, Ezekiel Machoga; and Treasury Principal Secretary, Chris Kiptoo.
