DP Kithure Kindiki asks youths to shun protests and embrace dialogue

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called for dialogue and consultations to resolve national problems rather than protests.

Addressing the public at Mkunguni Square in Lamu Island during a women’s economic empowerment event on Monday, Prof Kindiki said the country cannot be built through chaos, incitement and violence.

The DP stated that, despite citizens having a constitutional right to express their views and protest, everything should be done peacefully while respecting the law of the land.

“I plead with you fellow countrymen. We cannot build this country through chaos, incitement or violence. We must learn to resolve our national problems through consultations, discussions and through peaceful means,” said Prof Kindiki.

As he wrapped up his week-long Coast tour, the Deputy President said tangible development rolled out across the country is laying a firm ground for President William Ruto’s second term.

The second-in-command affirmed the administration’s quest to ensure every part of the country is a beneficiary of its non-discriminative development agenda, saying this is what most Kenyans demand of every government, making it easier for the President’s re-election.

“We are not just merely talking about two terms. We are saying if we have done 400 new modern markets in the first term, we will do another 2,000 markets in the second term, if we are building roads like in Lamu East, which has benefited from the first tarmac road ever, we will do more in the second term. We cannot claim to be a united country when there is a constituency in this country without a tarmac road. This is what President Ruto is changing,” said Prof Kindiki.

He added that all Kenyans will receive equitable projects and share of resources saying any attempt to divide them according to region, tribe, and religion will be rejected.

The DP said the discrimination associated with the issuance of IDs in far-flung counties had been gotten rid of by President Ruto’s government in an attempt to enable locals to get the vital document without many obstacles.

National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang’ula slammed members of the opposition, saying they have no agenda or any plan for the country except airing divisive politics and bitterness.

He called on those in the opposition to give options on how to take the country forward.

“It’s very pathetic seeing members of the opposition being agenda-less and plan-less. The agendas that they’ve always stuck with are those of ‘Ruto Must Go,’ ‘One Term,’ ‘Kasongo’ and others. We don’t think we have such a manifesto in this world,” said Mr Wetangula.

Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah warned Kenyans that leaders of the opposition have nothing for them. He called on Lamu residents and Kenyans at large to avoid listening to them.

He reiterated that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was thrown out of government over his failure to understand the true agenda of the Kenya Kwanza government which is development for Kenyans, including those at the grassroots level.

“The Kenya Kwanza government is an inclusive government that intends to empower everyone. That’s why it employed the bottom-up economic model,” said Mr Ichung’wah.

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy also lauded President Ruto for prioritising Lamu in his development agendas.

Mr Timamy said President Ruto deserves the second term since through his leadership, Lamu has for the first time benefitted from various projects that are of benefit to wananchi, including health, fishing, roads and others.

“For the first time, and during President William Ruto’s regime, Lamu now has an intensive care unit (ICU) at King Fahd Hospital that was launched just last week on Thursday by Health Cabinet Secretary, Aden Duale. It also has a state-of-the-art CT Scan and other equipment,” said Mr Timamy.

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir also emphasised the ongoing programs the national government is undertaking, including the abolishment of fees for the issuance of National IDs.

Mr Abdulswamad asked those in the opposition to wait for the 2027 elections instead of inciting Kenyans against each other. He highlighted programmes the government is undertaking, including Affordable housing projects in Mokowe, Hindi and Mpeketoni towns meant to uplift the people’s lives.
