DJ Fatxo breaks his silence on Jeff Mwathi’s death

Lawrence Njuguna Wagura, also known as DJ Fatxo, and his lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru, issued a statement on Sunday to address the speculation surrounding the death of Jeff Mwathi, a local businessman who was found dead in his home last month.

During the press conference at Greenspot gardens, DJ Fatxo denied any involvement in Mwathi’s death and assured the public that he was the first to notify the police about ‘Mwathi’s disappearance’.

The Mugithi artist stated that Mwathi was a close friend whom he had known since 2021, that he had purchased numerous shoes from his sneaker shop, and that he wanted to hire him for interior design services.

Overcome with emotion, he explained that he had left his house with three women and returned a few hours later to find Mwathi missing. He then went to the police station with the two men he had left at his house with Mwathi to report his disappearance.

“I want to assure you that, yes, as my lawyer said, it’s me who went and reported,” DJ Fatxo said. “We went with Jeff to my house, and then I immediately left with three ladies. Then later, coming back after a few hours, I found that Jeff is not in the house and the others were there. I am the one who actually went with them to the police station to report that Jeff is missing.”

During the press conference, DJ Fatxo refuted claims that he did not mourn Jeff or show any support, stating that he expressed sympathy for Mwathi’s family and friends and promised to do everything in his power to support them.

“There is this other issue that is going on in that I didn’t mourn the demise of Jeff. I reached out to the family. I actually contacted them and told them I would have supported them wazike mtoto wao na tushikanie na wao,” Fatxo said.

He did, however, say that despite reaching out, he was not receiving positive feedback and enlisted the help of his mother to contact Jeff’s family, but to no avail.

“There’s no way I can lose a friend and fail to mourn them,” he added.

DJ Fatxo asked his fans to keep praying for him and expressed confidence that he would win.

His lawyer Njiru went on to assure the public that DJ Fatxo has been cooperating with authorities since the investigation began and is willing to go to any length to assist investigators in getting to the bottom of the matter.

“We are here because we have cooperated with the institutions that entail doing the investigations surrounding the demise of Jeff,” Njiru said. “And we’re here to tell the world that our client has nothing to hide from the day the matter began, and he’s going to speak to that. He’s actually the person who made the first initial report to the police.”

“We therefore wish to rest the question of regarding the investigation to that level, but just to make sure that the world knows that we are ready to cooperate with any institution,” Njiru said. “We also feel strongly that there ought to be justice for Jeff.”

The investigation into Mwathi’s death is still ongoing, with the DCI homicide unit in charge of the case.
