Diamond Platnumz hints at new WCB signing after Mbosso departure
Tanzanian music mogul Diamond Platnumz teases the addition of a new artiste to his Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB) record label a few months after Mbosso’s departure, keeping fans eagerly awaiting the next big reveal.
The CEO took to Instagram to announce, “A new artiste is coming to WCB,” sparking speculation about who will join the star-studded lineup.
This move comes months after the label introduced D-Voice as a new signee in November 2023.
WCB Wasafi, known for producing some of East Africa’s biggest stars, currently boasts artistes like Zuchu, Lava Lava, Queen Darleen, D-Voice and Diamond himself. With the label’s history of developing top-tier talent, expectations are high for the incoming act.
However, this expansion comes amid a significant change in WCB’s roster. Mbosso, one of the label’s long-time artistes, has officially parted ways with Wasafi to pursue an independent career.
Diamond Platnumz confirmed the amicable split, stating that Mbosso approached him about his plans, and he gave his blessings without imposing any contractual exit fees.
Mbosso’s departure follows the exits of other high-profile artistes who previously left the label in pursuit of solo ventures.
Before Mbosso, WCB saw the departure of Rayvanny, Harmonize and Rich Mavoko—each carving out their own path in the industry.
Harmonize, one of the earliest signees, left the label in 2019 after a successful run that included hits like Kwa Ngwaru and Kainama. His exit was marked by a reported contract buyout fee of over Sh500 million (approximately $217,000), which he paid to gain full independence and launch his own label, Konde Gang.
Rayvanny, who rose to fame under WCB with hits such as Tetema and Kwetu, parted ways with the label in 2022. Unlike Harmonize, Rayvanny maintained a close relationship with Diamond and WCB after his departure, focusing on his Next Level Music label.
Rich Mavoko, another former WCB artiste, left in 2018 under less amicable circumstances, citing restrictive contracts. He later struggled to regain momentum in the industry but has continued releasing music independently.
The label has consistently introduced fresh talent, ensuring its relevance despite the exits of some of its biggest stars.
Fans now eagerly await Diamond Platnumz’s official announcement on who will be the next big act under the Wasafi umbrella.
