DCI launches public appeal for suspects in murder of Briton Campbell Scott

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is seeking help from members of the public in locating three individuals in connection with the death of 58-year-old British national Campbell Scott.

In a statement, the DCI said that Benard Mbunga Mbusu, Samuel Musembi Kamitu and Alphonse Munyao Kilewa alias Edu are suspected to be involved in Scott’s murder, and are currently in the wind.

Scott had arrived in Kenya just days before his death to represent his employer, FICO, in a product launch in conjunction with TransUnion, one of only three licenced credit reference bureaus.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is calling upon members of the public to volunteer information that may lead to the arrest of three murder suspects whose photographs are displayed below. The suspects are linked to the brutal murder of 58-year-old Briton, Campbell Scott, whose partially decomposed body was found on February 22, 2025, in Makongo Forest, Makueni Sub-County. Scott had arrived in the country just days earlier to attend a business conference,” read part of the statement.

Scott’s body was found in a sack in Mukuyuni, along the Wote-Machakos highway, seven days after he jetted into Nairobi.

His colleague, Michael Manaton, reported Scott missing at Parklands police station on February 16 after failing to see or reach the Scotsman on phone that entire day.

CCTV footage showed that Scott left the JW Marriott, a five-star hotel where he was to stay during his time in Kenya and where the product launch took place, at around 11.15am on February 16, walking towards Westlands.

He went to Havana Bar & Restaurant, where Scott had visited and met a man, the day before.

On February 16, Scott met his friend at Havana again, and the two and had drinks before leaving at around 4.39pm.

The Kenyan man’s phone was used to request for a taxi, which ferried the duo to a house in Pipeline, where police believe Scot was killed.

Two suspects were arrested last Saturday.

Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina on Monday allowed police to hold the two suspects for 21 days following an application by the DCI, in which detectives said a third suspect was still on the run and possibly hiding in Voi.

Police are treating the man believed to be hiding in Voi as the main suspect.

A post-mortem conducted on Tuesday by Dr Richard Njoroge and Dr Samuel Omuok of the Government Chemist turned inconclusive. The duo said the exact cause of the Briton’s death would be determined after a toxicology and histology analysis.

Government pathologist Johansen Oduor explained that the head injuries and other minor injuries noted on Scott’s body were too minor to have caused his death.

“Head injury and multiple soft tissue injuries…blunt trauma…Though just to clarify, the injuries as per the pathologists looked too minor to cause death. So they have taken samples to further investigate,” Dr Oduor said.
