DCI arrests gangster behind 7-hour siege in Nyamira
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested the main suspect behind an attack in Nyamira County that left a Nominated MCA, a principal at a local high school, and a County Executive Committee member among others injured.
According to the detectives’ report, the suspect was part of a gang of over 10 armed men who staged a siege in Kierira village in Keroka for over 7 hours last month, violently robbing the victims.
The suspect was taken to Nyamira County headquarters where an identification parade was conducted and the victims positively identified him.
During the attack, which affected over 13 victims, various mobile phones, over Sh130,000 in cash and hundreds of thousands withdrawn from ATMs were stolen.
Some of the victims include Nyamira County, a female nominated MCA, a principal of a local high school, a CECM in Nyamira County Govt, a Kenya Prisons officer and a nurse at Nyamira County Hospital.
“After subduing the victims with beatings and death threats, members of the gang who were armed with a pistol, machetes and other crude weapons forced themselves into three of the women in turns, before escaping with their loot after 7hrs of inflicting untold terror and trauma on the hostages. Reportedly, the incident happened from 9pm to 4am on the fateful night,” police detectives said in a statement.
The security agencies intensified their search on October 24th after receiving the information.
“Backed up by crime research detectives and the crime scene support teams who processed the scene for crucial leads, the investigating team placed a suspected ring leader at the scene before tracking him down in Kondele, Kisumu County.”
The detectives are now pursuing the remaining nine suspected gang members with the aim of bringing the entire gang to book.
