Daystar University reappoints Laban Ayiro as VC
Daystar University has re-appointed renowned scholar Prof Laban Ayiro for another five years as Vice-Chancellor.
In a statement on his social media platform (Facebook), Prof Ayiro announced his reappointment thanking the Board of Trustees and the University Council.
“Daystar University has re-appointed me for another period of five years with effect from March 1, 2024. It’s a heavy responsibility, which again is far beyond my talents, and I beseech God to go before me in shepherding Daystar University as part of His Kingdom,” said Prof Ayiro.
The educator called upon the students, faculty, staff, parents, and the wider global community of Kenya and the world to give him the impetus needed to make our university flourish into the future.
Prof Ayiro pledged to lead the university through having a sharp focus on the following worldly constructs namely wonder, worry and wishes of the entire community of Daystar.
“Responding to these three constructs will see to the development of state-of-the-art facilities, acquisition of meaningful and quality learning, having impactful and enviable graduates and products and an endearing fortitude for the love of God and fellow human beings,” said the VC.
Intellectual, social, and spiritual formation will be the character and substance of Daystar in the coming five years and beyond, said Prof Ayiro.
Prof Ayiro was initially appointed VC in Moi University in 2016 by then Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i.
However, some of the North Rift leaders opposed his appointment including then Governors, Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu), his Elgeyo Marakwet counterpart Alex Toglos, MPs Oscar Sudi (Kapseret) and Silas Tiren(Moiben), and James Bett (Kesses) preferring their candidate Prof Isaack Kosgey.
The don was later hounded out
Following his ouster, he was appointed Daystar VC in 2019. He was later awarded the Best Vice Chancellor in Kenya at the Uongozi Awards
However, last year, locals apologized to the scholar saying he was a victim of a tribal witch-hunt acknowledging him as the most effective leader while regretting not recognizing his merits during his tenure.
