CS Machogu orders action after 33,984 students failed to select Form 1 placement choices
Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machogu has requested that administrative action be taken after the recent KCPE selection process revealed that 33,984 students from 2,673 schools did not choose their preferred secondary schools.
Speaking at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), Machogu stressed the significance of parents and head teachers ensuring candidates make informed decisions.
“I direct county directors of education to establish the concerned schools with a view of instituting administrative actions against the headteachers and/or schools management for failing to adequately register learners for examinations,” Machogu said.
According to Machogu, it was evident during the selection process that a significant portion of applicants did not receive adequate direction and guidance when selecting schools.
The CS claimed that because there was a lack of proper instruction, some schools attracted more applicants than they could handle.
In addition to Kabianga High School, these institutions also included Nanyuki High School, Nyandarua High School, Pangani Girls High School, Maseno School, Alliance Girls’ High School, Nakuru High School, Kapsabet Boys High School, and Butere Girls High School.
For instance, 153,074 students applied to Kabianga High School which has a capacity of 768.
“The results of the above means many candidates will not get their choices and have to accept that it is not possible to be placed in your ‘dream’ school,” Machogu said.
The reporting period for all Form One students in 2023 will run from February 6 through February 13, 2023.
Machogu advised that parents seek assistance from their respective County Directors of Education.
According to Machogu, all accepted students should be recorded on NEMIS by March 2, 2023,
