CS Kindiki orders homicide team to probe death of Jeff Mwathi
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has ordered a homicide team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters to investigate the death of Jeff Mwathi, a 23-year-old man who died under mysterious circumstances at the house of Mugithi singer DJ Fatxo.
In a statement issued on Friday, March 10, 2023, CS Kindiki said he had spoken to DCI boss Amin and instructed him to send a team of experts to thoroughly investigate the incident and take necessary action.
“I thank the DCI for his quick action on this matter. The homicide team from the DCI headquarters is dispassionate, and this will help resolve the claims of collusion at Kasarani Police Station where the matter was reported,” he said.
According to witness statements taken by local police, Mwathi jumped from the tenth floor of DJ Fatxo’s apartment in Nairobi on February 22, 2023.
He had allegedly been hired by the entertainer for an interior décor job.
A scene of crime report filed at Kasarani police station said that Mwathi’s body had an open skull, multiple fractures on his legs and hands, and was naked from the waist down.
The preliminary investigation report showed the late Mwathi, the DJ, and another man went to the ill-fated house around 3 a.m., accompanied by three women.
“The six were joined by another male who is a relative of DJ Fatxo. About an hour later, DJ Fatxo left together with the three women and left Mwathi in the company of the two males… Some minutes to 5 a.m., the two men were captured by spy cameras going down to the ground, appeared as though scouting for something, one made a call and they went up back to the house,” the report reads.
Mwathi’s body was later seen coming out of the window and descending to the ground seven minutes after they went up. His lifeless body was later discovered on the concrete floor.
According to a postmortem report attached to the investigative notes, he died as a result of acute trauma to the head and limbs.
Mwathi was buried in Nakuru County on March 3, 2023. He was a nephew to popular Kikuyu musician Samidoh.
DJ Fatxo’s lawyer Charles Mugane has said that his client is fully cooperating with the police as investigations continue. He has also denied any involvement in Mwathi’s death.
