Chopper carrying Isaac Mwaura makes emergency landing in Kikuyu
A helicopter carrying government spokesman Isaac Mwaura and Kenya Red Cross secretary-general Idriss Ahmed Tuesday made an emergency landing in Gishungo, Kikuyu constituency, due to bad weather.
In a statement, Mr Mwaura said the pilot’s concern for the welfare of those on board was the reason for the emergency landing.
“I am safe fellow Kenyans. Our plane had to make an emergency landing in Gishungo, Kikuyu Constituency due to bad weather conditions,” he said, adding that they were on their way from Nyando in Kisumu County where floods had displaced hundreds of people.
The duo also delivered non-food relief items to those affected by the floods. They later made it to the city without much difficulty.
In a video shared on X by government spokesman handle, Mwaura asks the police to secure the plain until weather conditions allow the pilot to fly it back.
“As you can see it is still raining so I am asking you to keep an eye on the helicopter overnight, the pilot will come in the morning to fly it back to Nairobi,” he said.
The development has caused concern on social media as it comes after a recent incident in which former Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla and other military officials lost their lives in a helicopter crash.
Most parts of the country are experiencing persistent rains which have caused flooding and displaced thousands of people.
According to the Ministry of Interior, more than 164,000 people have been displaced.
