Change of heart! Bishop Wanjiru softens stance on Ruto, Gachagua
Just hours after saying her working relationship with President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua was over, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru of Jesus is Alive Ministries (JIAM) appeared to have made a U-turn.
In a twist of events, the Bishop posted a photo of herself walking with President Ruto in United Democratic Alliance (UDA) colours, accompanied by a message describing how far she had walked with the current regime.
Unlike the biblical parable of the prodigal son who wandered away from his father for a hundred days only to return after missing his inheritance, Bishop Wanjiru took just hours to seek the President’s favour.
In her words, the Bishop said she had great respect for the President and his family and was not prepared to be left out of the progress the government was making to change the lives of Kenyans.
“I have much respect and love for His Excellency Dr William Ruto, our Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and their families. We started this journey towards building a better and a more prosperous Nation together and we shall finish well, together,” Bishop Wanjiru said.
This comes as President Ruto continues to hand out positions to some of his allies, similar to Bishop Wanjiru, who stood with him in the last election, with the latest being a series of appointments to various diplomatic missions.
When her Nairobi church was partially demolished in the city centre earlier this week, the bishop became furious, claiming that the government was fighting her.
In the run-up to the last election, Bishop Wanjiru had expressed interest in contesting the Nairobi senatorial seat on the UDA ticket, only to be defeated in the polls by current legislator Edwin Sifuna.
President Ruto nominated her for one of the 50 positions of Cabinet Assistant Secretary (CAS), a move that was later halted by the court, which ruled that the positions were unconstitutional.
Since then, the vocal Bishop has been swept under the carpet as the President continues to appoint his close allies to various positions in the government.
When Ruto served as deputy in the last regime of outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta, he attended several services at Bishop Wanjiru’s church.
However, he has yet to set foot in JIAM Church after assuming power as the fifth president.
Their close relationship with President Ruto saw him donate a good portion during the fundraising drive for the construction of the multi-million Glory Twin Towers project, which appears to have stalled.
