CCTV footage shows dramatic arrest of 4 filmmakers
NTV has exclusively obtained CCTV footage showing the dramatic arrest of four Kenyan filmmakers.
The video captures the moment officers stormed the filmmakers’ studio, ransacking it and carting away documents and electronic storage devices.
Inside the studio, the four filmmakers—Nicholas Wambugu Gichuki, Chris Wamae, Brian Adagala, and Mark Denver Karubiu—are seen casually chatting about viral TikTok videos.
Suddenly, there’s a knock at the door. Mark Denver, dressed in an orange outfit, walks over to check. He alerts his colleagues, who immediately fall silent.
He engages with the people outside.
“Who are you? I would like to know who you are. I can’t open without knowing who you are,” he says.
“I’m here to arrest you… I know who I’m looking for. Now you are wasting our time,” one of the men—believed to be a police officer—replies.
Moments later, Mark opens the door, having secured his laptop inside. Two men enter first, followed by a third. A female officer briefly steps out.
“How many are you here? I tell you, have a seat—we will do it under my terms,” an officer commands.
The officers demand to know who Brian is. Another officer joins in. The questioning begins, focusing on the team’s business operations and licenses.
Brian asks why the officers are concealing their faces.
“You know we have trust issues with police… Why are your juniors hiding their faces?” he questions.
The lead officer responds, “If anything happens here… I carry the burden.”
Mark steps out with one officer to fetch his ID from the car. Brian is escorted out and back by two others. Inside, another officer continues inspecting documents.
In a separate room, the lead officer appears to be on a phone call, seemingly receiving instructions.
Back in the main studio, Brian attempts to explain their work.
“We are not a broadcasting company,” he says.
But the officer insists, “You are supposed to have a license with them—one from ECCK, the Electronic Commission of Kenya.”
The officers then demand that they surrender their equipment. The tone intensifies.
Items begin to be seized. The filmmakers are photographed. Their equipment is also captured on camera.
Finally, the group leaves the studio carrying several pieces of gear—a clear indication that this was not just a visit, but an arrest.
