Burna Boy concert: Nairobi residents warned of traffic disruption

Residents and motorists in Nairobi have been warned to expect major traffic disruptions and road closures over the weekend as the city prepares to host Nigerian superstar Burna Boy.

Event production, travel and ticketing company Madfun, in a traffic advisory on Wednesday 26 February 2025, warned motorists ahead of the much-anticipated event at Uhuru Gardens, off Lang’ata Road.

Burna Boy is expected to arrive in Nairobi with an entourage of more than 60 people, including his band, dancers, stylists and security personnel.

The event, which is expected to attract large crowds, will significantly affect traffic flow on several key roads including Lang’ata Road, Likoni Road and the link from the Southern Bypass to Likoni Road via the Carnivore grounds.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes where possible to avoid delays. Increased traffic congestion is expected, especially during peak hours, as participants travel to and from the event venue.

Event organisers say traffic police will be deployed to manage the flow and ensure minimal disruption, but commuters should still expect some delays.

“To minimize delays, we recommend planning ahead, allowing extra travel time and considering alternative routes.”

The organisers also remind attendees that the gates will open at 3pm and close at 9pm, adding that there will be no entry to the venue after 9pm.
Due to limited parking facilities at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, holders of regular tickets are strongly advised to use public transport such as taxis, matatus or motorbikes (boda bodas).

“Please ensure you are aware of the correct access points based on your ticket type,” they added.

Burna Boy will be joined on stage by some of Africa’s finest talents, among them, Kenyan Afro-pop star Charisma who shared his enthusiasm during the official concert announcement saying that the concert will be a defining moment in his career.

“This is a dream moment, and I’m ready to give fans an unforgettable show,” he said.

Others performing will be Bensoul, and South African Amapiano DJ and producer Virgo Deep, one of the pioneers of the genre.

Nairobi Regional Sub-County Police Commander Monica Kimani while also speaking during the official announcement’s press conference assured concertgoers that stringent security measures will be put in place.

“There will be no room for any aspect of criminality. We will also secure hotels where guests are staying and ensure smooth traffic flow,” she stated.

His renowned 45-man band, The Outsiders, includes top-tier instrumentalists, drummers, back-up vocalists, and a full brass section, guaranteeing an authentic live music experience. Every note, beat, and melody will be performed in real time—no playback, just pure musical excellence.

Burna Boy, 33 (real name Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu), who is a singer, songwriter, performer and record producer, gained recognition in 2012 after releasing Like to Party, the lead single from his debut studio album L.I.F.E of 2013.
