Bungoma Bishops condemn Azimio protests, call for Raila-Ruto talks
Bishops drawn from the entire Bungoma County have condemned the Monday demos by Azimio la Umoja, saying it paralyzed business, transportation and education in the country.
The clergy argues that the protests, which occurred in major towns will affect the daily revenue collection in the country.
Addressing the press in Bungoma town on Tuesday, Calistus Barasa, Chairman of Bungoma County Interfaith, noted that leaders were elected in various positions to represent and fight for the electorate’s interests both in the senate, national assemblies and the county assemblies.
“We are very annoyed at how some leaders are behaving, we did not elect you to go and stage demonstrations in town streets but to fight for us,” Barasa said.
Barasa, however, said that electorates have high expectations from the leaders they voted for in various positions.
He said that both Azimio leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto should embrace the possibility of a dialogue to end the planned mass action noting that during yesterday’s demos many properties were destroyed.
“Please President Ruto, you are a God-fearing man just relax and allow Raila Odinga to look for you so that you have a dialogue, as the church we are very much ready to support you,” Barasa said.
However, Barasa noted that both the ODM leader and President William Ruto are national leaders and none of them should be undermined, Raila has his supporters, he added.
“If the president keeps quiet on Raila’s mass action plans then it will be hard for the Kenya Kwanza government to revive the economy as pledged because the only time they will have is to exchange bitter words,” he noted.
Bishop Benjamin Juma, asked the Supreme Court to revisit the LGBTQ ruling saying that it is immoral behavior in the country.
