Biting Drought: Isiolo County distributes foodstuff to over 32,000 vulnarable residents
Isiolo County government has dispatched food rations to more than 32,000 households across its 10 wards, to vulnerable families facing the biting drought.
At least 5,295 households from Cherab, 1,115 Chari, 4459 Sericho, 3,662 Garbatula, 2,802 Kinna, 3,352 Wabera, and 2775 Bulapesa households will benefit from the distribution exercise.
Each household in Ngaremara, Oldonyiro, and Burat will receive 8kg of maize flour and 1 litre of cooling oil while in the remaining wards, each household will receive 5kg of rice and a litre of cooking oil.
Deputy Governor James Lowasa who launched the food distribution exercise at the police mess on behalf of Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan said that the Governor is passionate and caring adding that this is the 3rd phase of the food distribution exercise to cushion the community in the last 6 months
The DG noted that the hunger situation for most households in the Sub-County had reached alarming levels and the food will cushion the residents as the Government mitigates other means.
Present during the launch were speaker Mohamed Roba, CEC Dr. Mwongera, CEC Water Ali Wario, Members of the County Assembly, 10 chief officers, and other County senior officials.
The distribution came at a time when the locals are observing the Holy Month of Ramadhan.
“As the holy month of Ramadhan comes to an end, I believe you’ll be fasting under conditions that have been drastically affected by climate change causing unreliable rainfall and drought, it has not only affected our County but the whole country. I’m positive that the Government will stand by all those affected by this calamity,” Said the DG.
The county speaker hailed the launch assuring the Governor that the assembly will work very closely to deliver on his campaign pledges.
” It’s time to work together as leaders and shun divisive politics to address a myriad of the challenges faced by our community,” Roba Said.
