Bishop Wanjiru severs ties with Ruto, Gachagua over church demolition

Bishop Margaret Wanjiru of Jesus is Alive Ministries now says she has ditched President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance camp following the demolition of part of her church in Nairobi.

The church sits on the Kenya Railways Corporation, which has been earmarked for the construction of the Railways City by the current administration led by President Ruto.

Already, Ethics and antic-corruption Commission (EACC) says it will file a case against Bishop Wanjiru, James Ng’ang’a’s Neno Evangelism Centre, the family of the late minister Nicholas Biwott, and Rubis Energy for encroaching on Kenya Railways land.

In the suit filed before the Environment and Land Court through its Advocate Jackie Kibogy, EACC has asked the Court to nullify the titles illegally held by private entities and high-profile individuals and order the defendants to pay the government Sh1.6b in mesne profits due to their illegal occupation of the land for over 25 years which denied the public the use and benefit of the property.

But for Bishop Wanjiru, Thursday’s move signalled the end of relations between her, President Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, whom she says she campaigned for passionately.

She was speaking after being dismissed for what she said were injuries to her hand. Wearing an arm sling, she warned President Ruto.

“We’re disappointed by the Kenya Kwanza government. We’re very disappointed. I was one of the founding members of United Democratic Alliance (UDA). I campaigned for two years straight, others came to reap what I worked for. I’ve loved your family Mr President, I’ve loved your family Mr Deputy President. I’ve always loved you, prayed for you and blessed you when others disrespected you but from this day, behold, take from this altar, tables are turning,” she told journalists.

She claimed that she has been directed by the government which she stood with during the campaigns, and that Ruto’s regime opted for the American televangelist Benny Hinn and threw her in under the bus.

“Mr President, Mr Deputy President. I want to make a sweet promise to you, you will look for me. You went for Benny Hinn in America but I’m here, I’m not going anywhere. You have started a fight that you cannot fight. This one is in heaven’s list,” the disgruntled Bishop said.

During the campaigns for the 2022 elections, Ms Wanjiru had expressed her interest in the Nairobi senatorial seat, which she lost to Senator Edwin Sifuna of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Mr Sifuna polled 716,651, while Ms Wanjiru had 524,091 votes.

Bishop Wanjiru was later appointed by President Ruto as one of the 50 Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS) positions, but the role was declared unconstitutional by the High Court.
