Banisa MP Kullow Maalim Hassan dies after hit-and-run accident in Nairobi
Banisa Member of Parliament, Kullow Maalim Hassan, has passed away after a hit-and-run accident in Nairobi, as confirmed by his relatives.
The lawmaker died on Tuesday evening while receiving medical attention at a city hospital. According to reports, he was hit by a speeding motorcycle last Saturday while at Capital Centre.
Hassan was initially taken to Reliance Hospital in South C before being later transferred to the Aga Khan hospital.
President William Ruto mourned the MP on Twitter saying, ” I extend my condolences to the family, colleagues, and friends. We have lost a dedicated public servant and a passionate advocate for the people and interests of Mandera County as a whole.”
His colleagues, led by Eldas MP Adan Keynan have mourned him as an illustrious leader and a devoted public servant.
“Kulow was the epitome of an illustrious leader, a devoted public servant and an amiable figure in the community who discharged his leadership responsibilities with great honor and dexterity,” Keynan said.
The late MP was last seen in public on March 20 during the launch of a task force report on the health situation in Mandera County.
In 2017, he was elected to parliament on an Economic Freedom Party (EFP) ticket, and in the 2022 general election, he retained his seat on a United Democratic Movement (UDM) ticket.
He is survived by three wives and 16 children.
