Baichu ‘spills the beans’ on Meru woes in musical tribute to wife Kawira

Meru county’s First Gentleman, Robert Murega, popularly known as Baichu, has hit back at critics of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza with a rendition of the Swahili song ‘Wenye wivu wajinyonge’.

In what appeared to be an improvised performance, Baichu alleged a threat on Kawira’s life.

“Igembe, let me tell you the honest truth, listen carefully. They want to take Kawira’s life, they want to kill Kawira Mwangaza, but because of your prayers this spirit has been defeated in Jesus name,” he sang.

The MCAs, who pushed for Mwangaza’s impeachment at the beginning of her tenure, were not spared, with Baichu suggesting that the ward representatives were bitter over Kawira’s interference in their travel at taxpayers’ expense.

“Kawira’s enemies are angry because the last time they had tea in Nairobi hotels was during the impeachment period, they are still demanding that Kawira take them to have tea with our money”.

The performance took place during the ‘Murega Baichu’s Live’ event at Operation Okolea Kaana Kaa Miiru in Kiutine, Igembe Central, where fans had gathered.

On stage, with the governor dancing behind him as he strummed his iconic guitar, Murega asked the people of Meru to pray for his wife’s efforts in serving the people of Meru County.

He addressed the issue of Mwangaza’s impeachment, attributing it to jealousy among her colleagues and reiterating her prudent use of public funds.

He also directed his words at those who had negative opinions about his wife, urging them to focus on their own affairs. The refrain of the song echoed this sentiment: “And for those who are fighting Bishop Mwangaza, wenye wivu wajinyonge (The jealous should choke themselves)”.

Kawira Mwangaza triumphed in the Meru County gubernatorial election on an independent ticket, defeating incumbent Kiraitu Murungi. She previously served as Meru Woman Representative.

At the beginning of her tenure, Mwangaza’s decision to appoint her husband, Murega Baichu, to various ceremonial roles and the creation of the office of ‘First Gentleman’ sparked controversy and ignited discussions about her possible impeachment.
