Azimio protests amount to anarchy and economic sabotage: PCS Mudavadi
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has condemned the protests by Azimio, saying they are ill-motivated and orchestrated to cause economic sabotage.
Mudavadi says the protests are costing the country billions of shillings in lost revenue and that they are a violation of the law.
The PCS further cautioned Kenyans that Azimio’s drive for signature collection amounts to violation of personal data privacy and accused Azimio of using county government resources to ferry demonstrators.
He maintained a hardline stance that are acts of civil disobedience should not be tolerated in a democratic country, adding that Azimio will not intimidate the government and called on the government to “call in the law” and to prosecute those responsible for the protests. He also urged Kenyans to “beware of the political vampires” who are using the protests to satisfy their own political greed.
“It is time to call in the law. The Azimio leaders are responsible for leading riots under guise of peaceful demonstrations that have resulted in wanton destruction of property and loss of lives,” said Mudavadi.
Mudavadi’s condemnation of the Azimio protests comes as the country is facing a number of economic challenges, including rising inflation and a decline in the value of the shilling. The protests have also raised concerns about the stability of the country’s political system.
