All is set for Ruto’s tour of Nyanza: CS Owalo
Information, Communication and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has stated that all is set for President’s tour of Nyanza region.
Owalo spoke while on a tour to assess the preparedness of the projects that President Ruto will commission in his four-day tour starting today.
The CS visited Rarieda TVC in Asembo, and Mutumbu Youth Centre in Gem to assess the progress of Digital projects.
He later went to Kabonyo Kanyagwal where he inspected the fish factory.
President Ruto’s tour of Luo Nyanza will be his fourth since he was elected president a year ago.
His primary objective is to secure backing from counties that have historically supported Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition.
The initial visit, occurring shortly after his inauguration, was marred by controversy when certain leaders failed to accompany him to a church service, citing lack of invitation as the cause. In his last visit to Karachuonyo, during the homecoming of Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, opposition political leaders chose to boycott the event. However, his fifth visit is poised to be a different experience, as leaders, led by Governor Gladys Wanga, have extended a warm welcome to the Head of State.
Here is a detailed itinerary for the President’s visit to the region:
Kisumu:
- Groundbreaking ceremony of the Sh1 billion Kabonyo Regional Fisheries and Aquaculture Center of Excellence in Nyando.
- Commission the Lake Basin Mall.
- Launch the Koru-Bible College Road.
- Launch the MV Uhuru 2, a ship designated for operations on Lake Victoria.
Siaya:
- Launch the upgrade of the 27km Bondo-Uyawi-Kibanga-Liunda Road.
- Launch a digital laboratory at Mutumbu Technical Training Institute.
- Commission the construction of a Level 4 hospital in Ugenya.
Homa Bay:
- Initiate the construction of the 53km Mfangano Island Ring Road.
- Launch the upgrade of the 74km Mbita-Sindo-Kiabuya-Sori Road.
- Pay a visit to Victory Fish Farms in Sindo.
- Launch the rehabilitation of the Homa Bay Pier and other piers.
Migori:
- Launch the Last Mile water connectivity project at Kegonga, Kuria East.
- Commission a tuition block at Rongo University.
- Commision Uriri Hospital.
- Launch the construction of the Mabera affordable Housing project in Kuria West.
Reflecting on President Ruto’s prior visit in January, where he initiated the construction of affordable housing, his Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, called upon Nyanza voters to support their cause in the upcoming election. Dr. Ruto is expected to emphasise this message during his upcoming visit, acknowledging the historical sentiments of regional leaders who have felt marginalised by previous administrations.
