Acting IG Noor Gabow appoints Nicholas Kamwende as Deputy Director DCI in mini reshuffle
Acting Inspector General Noor Gabow has appointed Nicholas Ireri Kamwende as Deputy Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) with immediate effect.
Kamwende takes over for Hamisi Masa, who was deputizing for former DCI George Kinoti. He was previously the Nairobi regional DCI Chief and the Director of Planning at DCI headquarters. Prior to joining the DCI, he was the Director of Forensic Services and worked in the Anti-Narcotics and Banking Fraud Units.
As part of the new appointments, John Gachomo has been assigned as the new Director of the Internal Affairs Unit.
John Gachomo led the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU), a DCI unit tasked with mitigating and investigating terrorism-related cases in the country.
ATPU’s new Director is former Kasarani OCPD Johnstone Kola.
“These changes are in line with ongoing police reforms and are aimed at streamlining services; enhancing effectiveness, efficiency and professionalism in service delivery by the National Police Service,” National Police Service wrote on social media.
Other changes include Eliud Kipkoech Lagat, DCI’s Director of Reforms, becoming the new Director Investigations Bureau (IB), and Martin Otieno Omumbo being assigned to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
In addition, Paul Mumo, Director of DCI’s INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), has been moved to the Kenya Police Headquarters in Vigilance House Nairobi.
