30 Jubilee MPs break ranks with Azimio, vow to work with Ruto’s government
At least 30 Jubilee MPs have failed to remain in solidarity with the Azimio coalition and vowed to work with President William Ruto in a meeting held early Wednesday morning.
President Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua attended the meeting, which took place at State House.
According to information from State House sources, the MPs said it is time to put political differences aside and work for the people.
The head of state said it was inevitable for leaders to work together, noting that “the people who elected you are the same people who elected us”.
“You have a right to make choices as Kenya is a democratic country. You are now our members and we will treat you as such,” Ruto said.
He noted that Parliament is a critical platform for enacting laws on the Government’s agenda.
“We will be seeking your support on Bills and regulations on the Housing Fund, Water Purchasing Agreements, among others,” President Ruto said.
The MPs present were Margret Kamar (nominated), Joseph Githuku Kamau (Lamu), Bonaya Gollo (Isiolo Women Rep), Jerusha Mongina (Nyamira Women Rep), Peter Mbogho (Mwatate), Shuriye Abdi Omar (Balambala), Adan Daud Mohamed (Wajir East), and Adan Keynan (Eldas).
Others were Mohamed Tubi (Isiolo South), Joseph Lomwa (Isiolo North), Shadrach Mwiti (South Imenti), Dan Karitho (Igembe Central), Rachel Nyamae (Kitui South), Zachariah Kwennya Thuku (Kinangop), David Kiaraho (Ol Kalao), Noxon Ngikolong (Turkana East), and Sarah Korere (Laikipia North).
Irene Njoki (Bahati), John Waluke (Sirisia), Stephen Mogaka (West Mugirango), Amos Mwago (Starehe) and Kanini Kega (EALA) were also present.
Recent meetings at State House have sparked speculation about the coalition’s unity as claims of switched allegiance rise.
On Tuesday, a group of nine ODM lawmakers also met with President Ruto.
The MPs include Tom Ojienda and Gideon Ochanda, Elisha Odhiambo, Mark Nyamita, Caroli Omondi, Shakeel Shabir, Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o, Paul Abuor, and John Owino.
Another unexpected shocker came yesterday when ODM Chairman John Mbadi declared he would step down and stop appearing at rallies.
Recent rallies by the Azimio leadership appear to have drawn lines in the coalition, with important individuals failing to show up.
