2-year-old boy allegedly murdered by mother’s lover in Mtwapa
A two-year-old boy from Mtwapa in Kilifi county has died after being battered severely, police have confirmed.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Mtwapa are in pursuit of the main suspect, a boda boda rider who is allegedly the lover of the child’s mother.
Baby Mbarak Jamal is said to have succumbed to his injuries on Sunday while being rushed to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital in Mombasa.
Police say that the suspect who is still at large committed the said crime after a disagreement with the mother of the child. The two have been living in a rented house in the Mtomondoni area, the outskirts of Mtwapa town.
The mother is said to have separated from her husband and has been cohabiting with the rider who is suspected to have been abusing the boy since he was not his biological son.
According to a medical report seen by NTV, the boy sustained bruises on his lower limbs, thigh, and forehead.
Police say the incident was reported by the father of the baby and recorded under OB number 69/05/01/2023 at the Mtwapa police station.
An officer privy to the ongoing investigations also reveals that the mother of the deceased minor is a close relative of an immediate former member of parliament in the coast region.
Police have summoned both parents of the child to record statements as the manhunt for the suspect intensifies.
Baby Mbarak was laid to rest Monday according to the Muslim customs and traditions.
