Govt pathologist clarifies 95 bodies exhumed in phase 3 in Shakahola
Government pathologists have discovered two bodies that had been wrapped together in one sheet as they continued with their post-mortem on the Paul Mackenzie cult victims.
Chief Government pathologist Johansen Oduor told journalists at the Malindi Sub County Hospital Funeral Home also received the body of a Mackenzi ally who died at the Malindi GK prison hence pushing the total number of bodies in phase three of the autopsy to 96 instead of the initial 94.
He added that a total of 22 autopsies were done on Monday and nine bodies were remaining which they will complete on Tuesday before returning back to Shakahola for more exhumation.
“Initially we had said that 94 bodies had been exhumed but now as per my calculation, as we were doing the post-mortem, we found that two bodies had been wrapped in the same sheet making them 95 then one person died in prison and that makes a total of 96 bodies,” he said.
A total of 326 bodies have been exhumed from the 840-acre farm which is now a security operation area.
“By age seven of them were adults and 12 children and two we were unable to establish the age. As per gender, we found that females made a total of 22 while males were eight, and two of them we were unable to establish the gender,” he said
He added that 14 died of starvation while eight were unascertained because of the level of decomposition.
