15-year-old form two student found dead after alleged punishment by mother
A 15-year-old form two student in Migori County was found dead on Sunday, January 1, after allegedly being punished by his 30-year-old mother.
According to Migori County Police Commander Mark Wanjala, the body of the deceased was severely bruised and had injuries on the knees, leading authorities to believe that he may have sustained additional internal injuries during the incident.
The mother, a local businesswoman, was arrested after neighbors discovered the boy’s body while she was at work.
She admitted to punishing her son, but claimed that her 25-year-old son, the brother of the deceased, was also present during the incident.
The police have launched a manhunt for the older brother, who is believed to have taken part in the fatal beating.
“The woman has admitted to beating the deceased, but she says that her eldest son was also present,” said Wanjala.
The cause of death for the 15-year-old has yet to be determined, but authorities suspect that he may have succumbed to the injuries sustained during the punishment.
The body of the boy has been taken to Migori Level Five Hospital for a postmortem examination, while the mother has been detained at the Oruba Police Station ahead of her arraignment in court.
This incident comes just days after a woman in Kiambu was arrested for the death of her two children, a 7-year-old son and a 5-year-old daughter, who were found with their heads immersed in a bucket of water and are suspected to have been tortured.
