Chebukati: First batch of ballot papers for August Election arrive at JKIA today
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati has announced that the first batch of ballot papers to be used in the August election arrive in the country on Thursday, July 7.
While addressing a forum by Kepsa, Chebukati also dismissed claims that the ballot papers were arriving from Uganda or any other place.
“Forget about information in the media that some ballot paper will come through other areas , all our ballot will come in via JKIA.They are are serialised and have security features,” Chebukati said.
He added; “If a polling station has 600 voters, those are only ones that have been printed no more as claimed.”
The IEBC chairman also said that the presidential ballot papers would be the last to be printed in the ongoing process in Greece.
“Procurement has been finalised and what we are currently doing is the printing of ballot papers, which is ongoing,” he said.
Chebukati said that the ballot papers were coming from Greece and would be well secured as per the electoral laws and regulations.
The IEBC chairman also dismissed claims that there were plans to rig the election. “IEBC has prepared for these elections more than ever before. We will ensure that we have a transparent process; we are going to give Kenyans free, fair and credible elections. That is our commitment to the country,” he said.
