Azimio: Ours is a victory deferred and it is coming home
Azimio la Umoja running-mate Martha Karua now says that they know that their victory in the presidential election will be confirmed. She was speaking after she and other Azimio principals met elected leaders at KICC for consultations.
“Our figures show that we command the National Assembly. We must plan how we shall execute our mandate. On the other matter of the presidential election, we know that ours is victory deferred and it is coming home,” Karua said.
She spoke just minutes after President-Elect William Ruto announced that 10 out of the 12 independent MPs had joined Kenya Kwanza making it the largest coalition in the National Assembly.
Karua was accompanied by Azimio candidate in last week’s presidential election Raila Odinga and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka who they have designated the title, Chief Minister.
Kalonzo said that the meeting was looking at how the coalition can work together even as “the legal process and the political process continue”. He noted that the most important thing for Azimio is to “stand in solidarity and stand together”.
“We have two coalitions registered. We are all guided by what is before the registrar of political parties. It is important that we adhere to the provisions of that legislation. We will continue with our caucuses so that people can understand each other better,” Kalonzo said.
Azimio as a coalition has a binding agreement that ensures that the constituent parties stay in the union. However, those that would want to leave have a window to do so three months after the election.
Some of the Azimio Constituent parties include Wiper, UDM, Jubilee, Kanu, MDG, NAP-K, NOPEU, UDP,UPA and UPIA.
