TSC replaces seven interdicted teachers at Itumbe Primary School
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on Friday posted new teachers to Itumbe DOK Primary School in Kisii County, following the arrest of seven teachers who were seen on a viral video forcing young children to conduct pretend sex.
Following uproar from the said video, the seven teachers were immediately arrested by the police and interdicted by the TSC. They were remanded in police custody for two days and were set to be charged on Monday.
TSC dispatched the interdiction letters on Thursday evening, just a few minutes after they had been arraigned at the Ogembo law courts in Kisii County.
The teachers are now expected to provide justification as to why they should not be deregistered, according to a directive from TSC in a letter signed by an E J Mitei on behalf of the organization’s Secretary and Chief Executive.
The teachers implicated in the incident were Evelyne Moraa Orina (age 47), Catherine Mokera Mokaya (age 38), William Isuka (age 46), Druscilla Moraa Nyairo (age 48), Angelica Joseph (age 33), Gladys Kenyanya (age 50), and Obadiah Nyaribo Mokaya (age 33).
Paul Bewott, the senior principal magistrate, approved a request to detain the teachers for 14 days but only gave the prosecution two days to prepare charges against the suspects.
