Man, 20, brutally kills 80-year-old grandmother in Mombasa
A gruesome murder incident occurred in the Saragonza Bondeni area of Mombasa Urban Sub-County on January 21, 2021, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
According to a report filed by Swaleh Ali and seen by NTV, his step brother, Abdulaziz Ali Swaleh, aged 20, brutally attacked and killed his 80-year-old grandmother, Sharifffa Ali Salim, while she was sleeping in her bedroom.
The incident, according to the Occurence Book (OB) report, took place at around 10 p.m. at the victim’s grandparents’ residence, where the victim was residing.
The suspect is alleged to have entered the victim’s bedroom while she was asleep and used a sharp weapon to slice her neck, causing her death.
The house help, Antonina Bahati, who was nearby, raised an alarm upon hearing the commotion and the assailant was restrained by members of the public who were alerted by the screams.
The scene was immediately processed by officers from the National Police Service (NPS) of Mombasa division led by the OCPD, along with the DCI personnel. The suspected murder weapon, a knife, was recovered from the scene and collected as evidence.
The suspect is currently in custody at the Central Police Station and is expected to be charged with murder.
The body of the victim has been moved to Coast General Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination, which will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
