Detectives recover vehicle used in murder of Meru blogger
Detectives drawn from the homicide unit of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have recovered the vehicle that was reportedly used for the abduction of the late blogger Daniel Muthiani Benard commonly known as Sniper.
Homicide detectives led by Director Martin Nyabuto spent the entire Friday at Meru Central Police Station dusting the vehicle, a Toyota Premio model, for fingerprints to identify people who came into contact with it.
Detectives believe that the car was used to abduct the late blogger and later used to dispose of his body at Mutonga River in Chiakariga, Tharaka Nithi County on December 2, 2023.
Sources within the investigation indicate Vincent Mureithi Kirimi alias Supuu might have been the person behind the wheel.
The other three occupants including Brian Mwenda, Christus Manyara Kiambi, and Boniface Kithinji Njihia alias DJ Kaboom might also have been ferried in the same car.
“Further investigations are ongoing with the Homicide team working expeditiously on the case,” said the DCI.
Muthiani went missing on December 2, 2023, and his body was discovered on December 16.
A post-mortem conducted by government pathologist Johansen Oduor found that Muthiani had been tortured before being strangled to death.
The brutal murder sparked an outcry, with human rights activists and bloggers calling on the DCI to speed up the investigation and bring Muthiani’s killers to justice.
So far, 10 suspects have been arrested, including Murangiri Kenneth Guantai, the brother of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
According to investigators, the deceased was lured by the five suspects through a phone call alleging that a senior leader wanted to meet him.
President William Ruto has led the country in condemning the killing and calling upon investigating authorities to speed up the trial.
