High Court orders full access to CCTV footage from day of Kevin Omwenga’s death
Justice Justus Momanyi of the Milimani High Court has ordered the investigating officer in the murder investigation of businessman Kevin Omwenga to access CCTV footage of Galana suites from the day of the alleged murder.
This comes after the defense team complained about the prosecution’s selective and partial disclosure of video evidence.
The defense began its cross-examination of the first prosecution witness, Kevin Amenya, a cousin of the late 28-year-old Kevin Omwenga, by bringing to the court’s attention selective and partial disclosure of the CCTV footage that the prosecution was using in court, requesting more time to access full footage of the fateful day of the alleged murder.
The prosecution argued that the application was an ambush on the witness.
The orders to detain them for 30 days will be heard on Monday, October 31, 2022.
Omwenga’s death
Omwenga was shot in the chest after an argument with the key suspect in his murder at Galana Suites on Galana Road on the night of August 21, 2020, according to police and witnesses.
Police say the slain man and the key suspect, as well as four other people, were in the house when the incident occurred. Omwenga was involved in the gold business in addition to selling cars at a yard in the city.
The suspected shooter is said to have been Omwenga’s business associate’s driver and bodyguard. Omwenga and the suspect were arguing in the bedroom when a gunshot was heard, according to police.
