Six-storey building under construction collapses in Oloolua, Kajiado County
A six-storey building under construction in Kajiado’s Oloolua area has collapsed.
According to area residents who were close to te scene, the building collapsed at around 7:30 p.m on Wednesday. The residents also say that issues were raised on the construction of the building with somec claiming the materials used were substandard.
“Looking at the mixing ratio, the mixture had more sand than concrete and cement. The construction was likewise completed quickly,” said Joseph Ndirangu, an area resident and mason.
According to the Deputy County Commissioner of Kajiado North Sub County, there was no one in the building at the time of the incident. However, one passerby was wounded and taken to the hospital before being discharged.
He also stated that investigations have commenced and assured that necessary action will be taken.
A signboard near the building said that it was an NCA-approved proposed apartment whose contractor was Cost-Link Building Works Limited. However, a cursory search on the National Construction Authority portal yielded no results for the aforementioned firm.
This comes just a few days after a seven-storey building crashed in Kirigiti, Kiambu County, killing five people and wounding several on Monday, September 26.
There have been no statements from the building’s owner, the National Construction Authority, or the Kajiado County Government.
