Meru Governor Mwangaza, MCAs end months-long feud
Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza and Members of County Assembly have finally resolved their differences after months of infighting that had stalled development projects in the county.
The two parties held a reconciliatory meeting at the county chambers on Monday, February 20, where they agreed to work together for the benefit of Meru residents.
“We will work together to ensure that the people of Meru have access to good roads, ECDE classes, sufficient water, conducive environment to operate businesses, quality and affordable healthcare services and a robust agricultural sector among other sustainable development projects,” Mwangaza said.
“This is the beginning of great things in Meru County. Today’s winners are the people of Meru,” she added.
Governor Mwangaza thanked President Ruto and Deputy President Gachagua for mediating the peace talks and said she was ready to cooperate with all leaders regardless of their political affiliation.
She also thanked Meru Woman Representative Elizabeth Kailemia for acting as an impartial envoy between the executive and legislative arms of the county government.
The MCAs, led by Speaker Solomon Bundi, expressed their support for Governor Mwangaza and said they were willing to put aside their personal interests for the sake of Meru’s development. They said they would facilitate the effective utilization of ward development funds and oversee the implementation of various projects such as roads, water, education, health and agriculture.
Governor Mwangaza, who was elected as an independent candidate in 2022 after defeating former Governor Kiraitu Murungi, has faced resistance from some MCAs who accused her of mismanagement, nepotism and corruption.
The MCAs had staged several protests against her administration and threatened to impeach her.
