US citizen’s visit to Kenya that inspired bike venture
When Akili Terry Mujahmeed set foot again in Kenya in October last year, the last thing on his mind was to invest in a motorcycle hiring and adventure business.
Being an American who travels mostly to West Africa, he was fascinated by the Kenyan landscape and terrain that as an aspiring investor at the time, he got inspired to set up shop as a tourism investor in the country.
Now if you have travelled or toured the country, most likely you’d be in a tour van showing you around the park.
AMT Motorcycle Adventures, co-founded by Terry is disrupting that by offering bikes as part of the travel and tours experience.
“We partnered with Kibo motorcycles to be providing aspiring riders these experiences in safe areas of the parks for a different feel of adventure. I am glad the uptake has been positive, a Ugandan came all the way to Mombasa for an experience, quite a number of Kenyans consider it too and Germans alike,” Terry revealed.
Their motivation to partner was due to Kibo motorbikes ability to go offroad, giving clients the hybrid experience for both tarmac and offroad or terrain ride experience.
“The uptake just spoke to how many people want such experiences but they rarely find them.”
AMT Motorcycle Adventures model works just like how car hire business renting out bikes for a number of days to adventurers.
Their favourite of the current four destinations is the Hell’s Gate National Park in Nakuru. There are guided tours and individual rides. With the Kenyan tourism recovery post-covid, the restored spirit of domestic tourism carries a lot of promise for AMT.
Akili, who is an avid motorcycle enthusiast, and has been riding motorcycles since his freshman year of college is equally into social responsibility using his company that gives back to the community through education scholarships and equally investing in businesses.
They hope to fully go electric in future as a part of their environmental responsibility.
