KenGen appoints lawyer Julius Migos Ogamba as new board chair
The Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) has announced the appointment of Julius Migos Ogamba as its new Chairman of the Board.
The announcement follows a meeting of the Board of Directors on Tuesday, February 28, 2023.
Ogamba is an accomplished advocate with nearly 30 years of legal practice experience who has built a reputation for providing high-quality legal advice to a diverse portfolio of clients in a variety of industries.
He succeeds Samson Mwathethe, who has served as Chairman since November 2020.
“We are pleased to welcome Julius Ogamba as the new Chairman of the KenGen Board. Ogamba takes over from Samson Mwathethe, who has served the company as the Chairman since November 2020. The Board would like to thank Samson Mwathethe for his dedicated stewardship of the Company as the Chairman of the Board of Directors over the last two years as he guided the Company through national and global milestones. The Board wishes him the best as he assumes other new roles in nation-building,” the announcement read in part.
The board stated that it is leveraging his analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills, which have helped Ogamba forge long-term client relationships and drive organizational productivity by ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
The board described him as a transformative leader with a track record of supporting cross-functional team initiatives, cultivating excellence cultures, and fostering efficiency.
Ogamba has a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi, a Diploma in Law from the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies at the University of London, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. He is a Commissioner for Oaths and Notary Public, as well as a member of the Kenya Law Society.
Board members
The Board also announced the appointment of Josephine Koisaba, Stephen Mutai, and William Rahedi as independent and non-executive members of the Board.
Josephine Koisaba is a management and leadership expert with more than 20 years of experience in government policies, gender, human rights, and community development.
Stephen Mutai is an experienced strategic management practitioner with broad experience in policy formulation, strategy, healthcare financial management, and transformative leadership.
William Rahedi is an experienced independent business and finance consultant with over 40 years of multi-disciplinary expertise in business investment advisory, banking, finance, treasury management, loan negotiations and agreements, financial and business restructuring.
