Nusu mkate: Kakamega deputy governor demands 50/50 share in county government
Kakamega deputy governor-elect Ayub Savula has insisted that his boss and the county’s governor-elect Fernandes Barasa honor their agreement to share jobs in the county 50/50.
On Sunday, Savula shared a video of him from July, claiming that he and his county boss had mutually agreed to ‘share’ the county government to the mutual advantage of both.
“Constitutionally, half of Kakamega county is 10 ministries. Barasa has taken five and I have five. I am not a deputy governor, I am a co-governor, ” Savula said in the video.
However, Barasa has been quoted claiming that a nusu mkate government would not work when he ascends to power.
“There will be only one government, we cannot have a government of nusu mkate. My deputy and I will form one government,” Barasa said.
Savula, who was elected on an Azimio ticket, has also been quoted as alleging that the Jubilee administration employed agencies to force him to embrace the Azimio alliance against his will.
Savula stated that he hopped on President-elect William Ruto’s camp soon after being re-elected as Lugari MP in 2017, but was detained shortly after as a means of intimidating him.
“I have always supported President-elect William Ruto. When I did it for the first time openly in 2017, DCI and KRA were weaponised and used to target and intimidate me and my family. I will support and work with William Ruto as deputy governor of Kakamega,” Savula shared on his Twitter.
Fernandes Barasa and Ayub Savula are set to be sworn in on September 15, 2022.
