Pomp, colour and gifts as military sends off President Kenyatta
President Uhuru Kenyatta received six gifts from the military on Friday during his farewell ceremony at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata.
The event organized by the military and the Ministry of Defense celebrated the Commander-in-Chief in style, with him inspecting a guard of honor before being treated to cracking entertainment that had him in joyful tears.
Retired generals presented the outgoing fourth Command-in-Chief with a Friesian cow that can produce between 40-50 liters of milk.
Retired Gen. Joseph Kibwana presented the president with a sculpture of a lion as a symbol of bravery, respect, and praise on behalf of the retired generals.
The Navy gifted him two Boer goats, with their origin from South Africa, one male, and one female.
Kenya Air force gifted their retiring commander with two Dorper sheep also who ail from South Africa and are known for sweet meat and quick growth and reproductivity.
He also received an Ayrshire cow by the name of Panga, which is known for producing up to 10 liters of milk from the Kenya Army. Panga was born on 7/01/2019 and is expectant and could give birth tomorrow, September 10.
Kenya Defense did not miss the party gifting him 1o Sauer cows that originate from Pakistan that are resistant to ticks and adverse weather.
The Ministry of Defence awarded him a set of golf clubs similar to those gifted to the First Lady.
Military Wives Association of Kenya, MWAK, awarded First Lady Margret Kenyatta two gifts to appreciate her efforts in social advocacy through her brainchild Beyond Zero.
The first is a drawing of a soldier’s family. The drawing has a husband, wife, and child depicting the impact of Margret Kenyatta on over 14 million families that have benefitted from the Beyond Zero campaign.
The second is a basket woven by a woman who has befitted from the advice given by MWAK. Inside the basket was a strategic plan of MWAK as well as a chronological history of MWAK’s first operational year.
MWAK was created in February 2021 with an aim of developing all KDF families of both serving and retired soldiers, widows, and orphans.
She also received two gifts from the Kenya Defense Forces, a painting of a woman’s piece of jewelry on one side that shows the strength of women in leadership and family. The gift showed appreciation to her for being supportive of President Kenyatta.
On the other side was an image of a portrait of an old phone to show the desire of the military to keep in touch with her.
The First Lady also received a painting of two ducks facing each other a symbol of love, grace, respect, and eternal love from the Ministry of Defense. The ministry also gifted her with a set of golf clubs and an avenue for her to spend her retirement.
Moi Forces Academy Primary School sang a song of praise to the First Lady from Beyond Zero to Linda Mama program. “Thank you for giving Kenya hope”
The event was graced by important dignitaries including Foreign Affairs CS, Raychelle Awour Omamo, Energy and Petroleum of Kenya, Monica Juma, CS Devolution Eugene Wamalwa, Attorney General Paul Kihara, and Chief of Defence forces, General Robert Kibochi among others.
President Kenyatta and the First Lady also had a light moment teeing off at the sports complex. He is expected to hand over power on Tuesday, September 13, at the Moi Sports Center Kasarani.
